Over the years, I’ve learned that evaluation pre-conference workshops are a great way to advance my skills. I’ve participated and led workshops at different evaluation conferences and through these experiences, I’ve met many new colleagues who have shared tips, successes, and failures that have all been very valuable to me. I’ve learned about – and tried out – new tools and ideas that I’ve been able to apply to my evaluation practice.

When I attended the Australasian Evaluation Society conference last year, I was really glad I participated in a pre-conference workshop because it allowed me to not only learn some new things, but also to meet new people in a smaller group setting. When the conference started, I had a little network of people that I knew, which was really helpful since I only knew one other person who was at that conference prior to that!

This year, I have the privilege of being a Co-Chair of the Program Committee for the CES conference and we received so many great proposals that it was really difficult to choose!  The pre-conference workshops that are being offering this year are at the beginner and intermediate levels and there are a wide range of topics. The workshops will all be designed to dig deeper into their topic, apply those concepts within a workshop setting, and give participants opportunities to interact with one another. I’m sure everyone will find something that will meet their professional development needs!
